Columbus residents have a new chance to clear out household chemicals and electronics after the city postponed its collection day because of weather. The Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Day is now set for Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 8:00 am to noon EDT at the Recycling and Sustainability Center, 8001 Pine Grove Way. The city confirmed the change in its October 15 notice.
Accepted items include cleaning and lawn chemicals, paint and paint thinner, automotive fluids, car batteries, computers and printers. Televisions are excluded. Residents may also bring gently used shoes for a Keep Columbus Beautiful campaign. The Public Works announcement says the event is for Columbus residents and requires ID.
Before loading the car, check the city’s current list, especially for items mentioned only on an older hazardous waste page that still shows the original October 10 date. For questions about a particular item, call Keep Columbus Beautiful at 706-225-4008. Read More... |
The 16th annual Paint the Town Pink 5K Fun Walk/Run returns to Woodruff Park in Uptown Columbus on Friday, October 23. The West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition organizes the fundraiser, with every dollar raised staying local through the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Cancer Assistance Fund, which helps area residents in cancer treatment cover everyday bills.
A survivor parade opens the evening at 5:45 p.m., followed by the timed 5K and an untimed fun walk at 6:30 p.m. Registration stays open through race day, though prices have risen to $45 for runners and $35 for walkers, and late sign-ups are not guaranteed a T-shirt. Participants must be 12 or older.
Packet pickup runs Thursday, October 22, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Cunningham Center, with race-day registration opening at 4 p.m. at Woodruff Park. Readers can register online or check course and parking details before heading downtown. Read More... |
